*Lifey walked into the classroom and looked around. Yes she was going to enjoy this post! She stood before the class*

elouai's doll maker 3

(my hair is longer though and straight)

Hello all *waves* and welcome to your first Transfiguration class of the year! Now first off I expect you lot to behave! *looks around meaningfully at each student* and second off I want you lot to have fun with Transfiguration. Now I know you’ve covered a lot of information so far, and are doing well, but for today, I’d like to take us back for a little review before we plunge into more intense classes *smiles at her students*. We are going to go over the basics of Transfiguration today.

Basic Knowledge
Part 1

1. Define Transfiguration. (4)

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)

6. Name four Transfiguration books. (2)

Part 2
Proper techniques are required for successful Transfiguration. Create a guide for Kwikspell on the proper techniques involved in Transfiguration such as wand movements and pronunciation. This is supposed to be fun and creative. Use your imaginations. You can either use diagrams and graphics, or simply write out detailed explanations. (20)

Part 1: 20
Part 2: 20
Total Points: 40

Remember to site your sources (websites used) and no copying and pasting!

Points awarded to each student will be given once this class closes and will be upon the end of this post.

Fidelius Charm

Introduction- "Fidelis" is Latin for faithful friends. So, obviously, this charm will have something to do with that context.

The following pictures are all symbols of loyalty and friendship that go along with the word "Fidelis". (You might also be familiar with the muggle song, A Desda Fidelis (spelling unsure), also known Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

A marked change in form or appearance; a metamorphosis

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)

Untransfiguration

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)

WHen you untransfigure soemthing, its when you change it back into its proper form.

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)

You need concentration, the correct wand movement, and you need to be able to speak the correct incantation.

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)

In the first book they had to transfigure matches into needles. I believe only Hermione was succesful at the end of class.

In the fourth book Krum transfigured himself partialy into a shark. It did work, because he could breathe underwater, and he didn't die or get hurt or anything.

Also in the foruth book Moody (Crouch Jr at the time) transfigured Draco into a ferret. It worked perfectly. He looked exactly like a ferret, and it was hilarious

6. Name four Transfiguration books. (2)

Kwikspell.
Chapter 1.
Learning to Transfigure.

Now do not fret my friends. This should be easy and painless. Now it will take sometime, but with concentration, and will power you WILL make it. Now the first step to transfigure anything it learning how to flick correctly for each spell. After a while the movements should come naturally. Now I won't be telling the spell your learning the flick for yet. I don't want you too preocupied.

Put your hand straight out then relax your elbow. Hold your wand tightly, but not too strongly that your squeezing the magic out of it. Let your wrist go slack for a moment, and quickly move your wand to the left. Then move it back up, very quickly, and slowly slide it down. DO this until its engraved in your mind. Now once that is done speak these words, Fio canalis. It means Become Canary in Latin! Now you can transform anyone into a canary. Wonderful for payback or just a bit of fun. Now go have fun, and ocne your done erfecting this spell, go on the the next lesson.

PostSubject: Re: The Basics of Transfiguration   Tue Sep 26 2006, 08:43

I am going to try harder in transfiguration (and every subject) this year…so lets get down to work

Basic Knowledge
Part 1

1. Define Transfiguration. (4)
Transfiguration is a magical skill which involves transforming one thing into another.

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)
Untransfiguration

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)
Untransfiguring something returns it back to its original form

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)
1. Correct wand movement
2. Correct incantation
3. Concentration

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)
1. In GoF Krum transfigured his head into a shark in order to be able to complete the second task, this did work.
2. Another one (this being my favourite) was also in GoF when Proffesor Moody transfigured Malfoy into a ferret. This was successful otherwise Lucius Malfoy would certainly have gotten involed…and that wouldn’t have been great for Hogwarts.
3. There are several animagi in the harry potter books, such as Sirius, James, Peter, Rita Skeeter, Prof. Mcgonagall(sp?)

6. Name four Transfiguration books. (2)
1. Beginners Guide to Transfiguration
2. Intermediate Transfiguration, A

This spell for turning something into a jar is very simple.

The wand movement is very basic: starting with your arm out bring it up from the elbow untill it forms a right angle and the bring your arm swiflty down again pointing your wand and the object you wish to transfigure.

The incantation is "orca verto" this should be said clearly while rolling the rrrrs slightly

PostSubject: Re: The Basics of Transfiguration   Tue Nov 14 2006, 07:56

Basic Knowledge
Part 1

1. Define Transfiguration. (4)

The art of metamorphosis, Transfiguration is the changing of the form and appearance of an object, and sometimes, the conjuring and creation of objects. This

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)

The art of reversing Transfiguration is called Untransfiguration

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)

The definition of "Untransfiguration" is quite simple. If transfiguration is changing the form and appearance of an object or conjuring/creating objects and "un" generally means opposite of. Untransfiguration is changing the object back to it's original state.

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)

Three of the most important elements of transfiguration are - correct pronunciation as well as correct wand movements. The third would simple be concentration.

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)

1) Hagrid tries to change Dudley into a pig in book 1 but instead Dudley only gets a tail. The Transfiguration did not work to Hagrid's full satisfaction since his wand had been broken in half by the Headmaster of Hogwarts when he was expelled. Hagrid pieced together his wand and it was now the handle on his umbrella. Since his wand was broken that hadn't helped.

2) McGonagall Transfigured the chessmen to make them 'come alive' in book 1. While down in the chambers in search of the Philosopher's Stone, Harry, Ron and Hermione come across a large chess board. They had to beat the other chess pieces in order to continue on through each of the chambers. This worked flawlessly and the trio was able to beat the game with Ron's help.

3) Padfoot Transfigures back and forth from Animagus form in books 3-5. Changing your own forum is a part of Transfiguration. It's not easy to accomplish and few wizards are able to transfigure their entire bodies into an animal. Padfoot was successful in completing the transformation. In fact he was in his 6th year the first time he completed it with James Potter and Peter Pettigrew.

Can't seem to get that simple match transfigured into a needle? Does your button still crawl around like a beetle? Well have no fear! Kwikspell is here to help the poor and misfortunate that can't seem to get Transfiguration at all. Transfiguration is considered one of the toughest subjects for a wizard or witch to grasp. You aren't alone! We here at Kwikspell want to help you and we will do so. We guarantee that in 24 hours you'll be able to finally transfigure matches into needles and beetles into buttons in no time. We're so sure of that fact that we're willing to offer a complete refund if you don't! So let's begin with our first lesson.

Remember to properly transfigure something we need to follow the three C's - Correct pronunciation, Correct wand movements and Concentration! If you can do that you're well on your way to getting it! First thing is first - pronunciation. Look at the spell - say it over in your head until you have it just right. When you do hold your wand in your wand hand - don't grip the handle too tightly. Now without saying the spell practice the correct wand movements. Once you've got that down we can move on to actually performing it. Now place your match in front of you on the table. Clear your mind of all thoughts - that's it. Think of nothing else but turning that simple match into a needle. Picture the needle in your head - the sharpness of that point. Get a good clear picture. When you're ready say the correct spell which you practiced before hand and the wand movements. And if you did everything correctly you are now staring at a match! Well done!

Basic Knowledge
Part 1

1. Define Transfiguration. (4)

Changing or morphing an object, whether animate or inanimate, into another object similar or different to the original object.

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)

Untransfiguration, or Restoration

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)

The object of Restoration is to restore a transfigured object back to what it originally was, if there was a complication or to use the other object.

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)

Correct Wand Movement and Incantation, and Most Importantly, CONCENTRATION!

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)

a) When Malfoy was turned into a ferret by Moody. It served as a fitting punishment until McGonagall could restore him back to his usual sneering form.

b) When McGonagall’s transfigured Chessmen protected the Philosopher’s Stone from being stolen.

c) Sirius was an Animagus which enables him to transfigure himself into an animal. Because of this, he could escape from Azkaban and survive in the wild.

6. Name four Transfiguration books. (2)

Part 2

KWIKSPELL TRANSIGURATION

How To Transfigure: The Dummies Guide.

1. The most important thing in transfiguration is the concentration. You may have a wand, and you may know the right wand movement and the incantation, but without pure mind focus and concentration, you can never transfigure anything. If you don’t believe in yourself and have faith that you can do it, then it will never happen.

2. The next two things come together. You need the wand movement and the correct incantation to be able to carry out a correct transfiguration! There is a lot of difference between transfigurations. There are three main different types of movements that are used: The Flick, The Circle and The Jab. These, along with the unique incantation can transfigure anything. If you are transfiguring animate objects, the first part of the incantation will always be Animato. If the object is inanimate, the first part will be Inanimato. There are more prefixes and suffixes that simply need to be learnt, or if you turn out to be a powerful witch or wizard hiding your inner potential, you will be able to transfigure by just concentrating.

ok, here goes my first post to answer a lesson! hermione Yay! Wish me luck!

Basic Knowledge
Part 1

1. Define Transfiguration. (4)
Transfiguration is the science of transforming one object into another. It is also possible to turn animate being into inanimate objects and the other way round. It is also possible to tranform only body parts, e.g. head

2. What is the opposite of Transfiguration? (2)
Untransfiguration

3. Define the purpose/effects of the opposite of Transfiguration. (3)
Changing the object back to its original form.

4. What are three extremely important elements needed to perform successful transfiguration? (3)
Concetration
Wand movement
Correct spell

5. Name three different situations in the Harry Potter books where transfiguration was used. Did the Transfiguration work? If not, what happened?(6)
- HP CoS: Ron, Harry and Hermione tried transfigurating themselves with help of the Polyjuice potion into Crabbe, Goyle (Ron and Harry) and - in Hermione's case - the transformation goes wrong - she takes cat's hair instead of Milicent Bulstrode's hair - she gets a cat's tail
- Krum at Triwizard Tournament: transfigured his head into a shark's head in order to be able to breathe underwater at task 2 - succeded
- OWL exam: Ron had transfigure a mouse into a teacup but the teacup still had a tail

6. Name four Transfiguration books. (2)

Part 2
The proper wand movement
Most important of all, keep your hand flexible, bendy. Easy, twitching movements. Don't agitate your wand too much and don't hurry, you might only create the wrong effect. But also don't do too slow movements. Point the tip of the wand at the object you want to transfigure. Start your wand movement from the back, then flip it slightly upwards, then point towards your object in a confident manner. And don't stick anybody's eyes out! (especially not your own!)

Pronounciation
Clear pronounciation is the most important, otherwise you might end up doing a completely different spell than you were intending to do! Long syllables, the accent lies on the middle syllable of each word. If it doesn't work the first time, try it again, but don't let your frustration influence your pronounciation to the worse.

Concentration
Don't think of anything else while performing the spell, just think of what you want to transfigurate your object into! That means - no "oh my god, my crush is watching me!" and no "Go Harry! Catch the Snitch!". Just plain concentration, ok?

Basic Transfiguration – Kwikspell quick guide

Welcome dear customers to another Kwikspell course. This time we’ll help you to learn how to transfigure a button into a cockroach. Now before starting you must remember transfiguration’s three fundamental rules clear pronounciation. Perfect wand movement and deep concentration. After that just follow the next simple steps:

1 – Grab a button
2 – Palce it on an empty table
3 – Focus on what you want to do (change the button into a cockroach)
4 – Repeat the spell a few times before using a wand “Balck Beetlenize”
5 – Now train the wand movement WITHOUT verbalising the spell. A simple wave upwards wand movement.
6 – Revise all the previous steps and you’re ready to go.

That’s it dear costumers I hope you’re sastisfied. More simple it’s impossible therefore we accept no complaints, if you couldn’t do it then it’s not your fault you’re so bumd. See us on the next course.
