From Beetles to Buttons

Basic Transfiguration involves turning small inanimate items into other small inaminate items. This means that turning bettles into buttons is more difficult and as a result more dangerous. In this class it is your job to come up with a lesson by filling in the guidelines set by me. BE sure to explain your reasoning and make your answers a reasonable legnth, (nothing too short please!)

Let's Begin.

Part One: Preparation
What type of beetle will you be using:
What are the reasons you chose that beetle (list at least 3):
Will the students be doing this individually, or in groups:
Why:
What year are these students:
What makes this year the best for this kind of transfiguration:

Part Two: Classroom Set-up
Post a diagram of you will set up your classroom to make things run smmothly. Label please.

Part Three: The Class
What spell will you be using:
What roots does that spell come from:
Write a drabble of your demonstration to the class with any reactions they might have (100 words, 5 more or less):
Write a drabble of your classes attempts at transfiguration 100 words 5 more or less:

100 points possible. Be creative.

Part One: Preparation

What type of beetle will you be using: I will be using the Lady Beetle, more commonly known as the Ladybug in American/ Ladybird in English.

What are the reasons you chose that beetle (list at least 3): I chose this beetle because ladybugs are generally small, about the size of a button, and the ones used in this class will be brightly colored, making it easier for the students to spot the beetles on their desks. Also, most students are familiar with ladybugs and would not be as afraid of them and/or hesitant in their spellcasting as with larger, more unfamiliar beetles.

Will the students be doing this individually, or in groups: The students will be transfiguring individually.

Why: Although transfiguring animate things into inanimate objects is hard, the objects are relatively small and I believe that a student could complete the job by his/herself. Also, in groups, it would be harder to grade each student, because some may contribute more than others, but each person's contribution couldn't be seen from the end product.

What year are these students: The students will be in 2nd year.

What makes this year the best for this kind of transfiguration: 2nd Year is best for this assignment because the students have already had experience with transfiguring inanimate objects in 1st Year [matches into needles], so transfiguring small insects into small inanimate objects would be the next step.

Part Two: Classroom Set-up

Post a diagram of you will set up your classroom to make things run smmothly. Label please.
TBA

Part Three: The Class

What spell will you be using: The spell will be Plantexagures.

What roots does that spell come from: "Planto" is Latin for 'make', "ago" is Latin for 'live', and "res" is Latin for 'object'. So from its roots, plantexagures means to make an object from a living thing.

Write a drabble of your demonstration to the class with any reactions they might have (100 words, 5 more or less):

June smiled at the class of 2nd Years and gestured towards the white box on her desk. "In this box are ladybirds, two for each person, in case something - er - unfortunate happens to the first. You will be transfiguring these insects into buttons, individually."

The class visibly gulped.

She hastened to reassure them and quickly said, "It isn't as hard as it sounds. Watch as I demonstrate and explain, and then - " She scanned the room. " - then Miss Conelli, would you please hand out the ladybirds to the class? You can use a levitation charm."

That job allocated, June Levitated one of the ladybirds onto an empty student desk and gestured for the class's attention. "The incantation is plantexagures." After slowly repeating the spell, she continued, "While casting, point your wand directly at your ladybird. Don't move it suddenly, or you may end up turning your desk or a classmate into something we'd rather not see. Alright?" When she received confirmation, June went on and cleared her throat. "Now, watch." She pointed her wand directly at the red and black polka-dotted insect and said slowly, "Plantexagures." The beetle in front of her suddenly morphed into a red and black button, and June picked it up and showed it to the class. "See? Not as hard as it sounds." She gestured towards her brown-haired helper and said, "Miss Conelli? Please pass these out."

As she spoke, she watched her class carefully. A few of the more eager ones were smiling, obviously itching to get started. In contrast though, there were many hesitant students, one looking a bit queasy, and they were staring at the box and at her beetle-turned-button with a familiar look of apprehension. June sighed and minutely shook her head. They were just going to have to accept it; in this class, they dealt with living things. She glanced down at the button in her hand, and she hoped that not too many ladybirds would be smushed by careless wands today.

Write a drabble of your class' attempts at transfiguration. 100 words 5 more or less:
